This site extends my analysis of the World System back before we really have very good data. The motivation for this site was the lecture given by Prof. Tim Synder A World of Empire where he starts from somewhere around -500BC and goes up to the 20th Century in order the explain the Growth-and-Collapse of Empires (the collapse being the period 1900-1950 containing World War I , the Great Depression and World War II ). Prof. Synder's Historical lectures are a great introduction to my own work on developing Macro Societal State Space models using the Maddison Data Set and other sources . State Space Models are based on data, so how did I go so far back in time? I used data from the Estimates of World Population to link with the Maddison Data Set that I am using.
